The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the star when it goes down. 1 your companion is not in error nor has he gone astray. 2 And he speaketh not of his own desire. 3 This is only revelation communicated, 4 He was taught by [an angel] who is mighty in power, 5 The Lord of Strength; so he attained completion, 6 while he was in the highest horizon; 7 then came down close 8 two bows' length away, or nearer, 9 And He revealed to His servant what He revealed. 10 His (Muhammad's) heart did not lie to him about what his eyes had seen. 11 what, will you dispute with him what he sees? 12 Indeed, he saw him another time 13 At the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary - 14 close to the Garden of Refuge. 15 When that which covers covered the lote-tree; 16 The sight turned not aside, nor it exceeded. 17 Indeed he saw some of the greatest signs of His Lord. 18 (Can anything as such be considered true) of al-Lat, al-Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third - the other one? 20 Are there sons for you, and daughters for Him? 21 Behold, such would be indeed a division most unfair! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. 23 Shall man have whatever he craves? 24 All that is in the life to come and all that is in this life belongs only to God. 25
