The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
The Hour has come near, and the moon has split [in two]. 1 And when they see a sign, they turn away and say, “Just a customary magic!” 2 And they denied and followed their inclinations. But for every matter is a [time of] settlement. 3 There have already come to them Recitals wherein there is (enough) to check (them), 4 a Wisdom far-reaching; yet warnings do not avail. 5 So turn away from them, (O Prophet). On the Day when a caller shall call them to a thing most terrible, 6 With looks downcast they will come forth, from the tombs, as though they were locusts scattered abroad. 7 Hastening toward the summoner; the disbelievers say: This is a hard day. 8 ۞ The people of Noah denied [the truth] before them. They belied Our messenger saying, "He is mad!" He was rebuffed, 9 Then he invoked his Lord (saying): "I have been overcome, so help (me)!" 10 We opened the gates of the sky and water started to pour down. 11 and caused the earth to burst forth with springs, so that the waters met for a purpose pre-ordained: 12 And We carried him on a (ship) made of planks and nails, 13 She floats under our eyes (and care): a recompense to one who had been rejected (with scorn)! 14 And We have left this as a Sign (for all time): then is there any that will receive admonition? 15 How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 16 And assuredly We have made the Qur'an easy for admonition; is there then any one who would be admonished? 17 'Ad also gave the lie (to Hud). So how awesome were My chastisement and My warnings! 18 Behold, We let loose upon them a raging storm wind on a day of bitter misfortune: 19 It swept people away as if they were trunks of uprooted palm trees. 20 And how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 21 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 22
