The people of Thamud rejected Our warnings. 23 They said, "Should we follow only one person among us. We shall be clearly in error and in trouble (if we do so). 24 Hath the remembrance been given unto him alone among us? Nay, but he is a rash liar. 25 They shall know tomorrow whichsoever is a liar insolent. 26 We are sending to them as a trial, a shecamel, so watch them and have patience. 27 And tell them that the water is to be divided between them: Each one's right to drink being brought forward (by suitable turns). 28 But they call their comrade and he took and hamstrung (her). 29 Ah! how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning! 30 For We sent against them a single Mighty Blast, and they became like the dry stubble used by one who pens cattle. 31 We made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would take heed? 32 The nation of Lot belied Our warnings. 33 Surely We sent upon them a stonestorm, except Lut's followers; We saved them a little before daybreak, 34 as a blessing from Us: this is how We reward the thankful. 35 And he had already warned them of Our assault, but they disputed the warning. 36 Then they even solicited his guests from him, whereupon We blotted out their eyes, (telling them): “Now have a taste of My chastisement and My warnings.” 37 In the morning early there came upon them a settled chastisement: 38 'Taste now My chastisement and My warnings!' 39 And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember? 40
