The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 It will bring low (some); (and others) it will exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 So that they will become floating dust particles. 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 Those on the right hand; how happy shall those on the right hand be! 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace. 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 And extended shade, 30 Gushing water, 31 And fruit abundant. 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 and upraised couches. 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 And made them virgins, 36 Loving companions matched in age, 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
