The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 When the earth will tremble, shivering. 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 Those on the right hand; how happy shall those on the right hand be! 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 in the Gardens of Delight, 12 A multitude of those of old 13 but only a few from the later generations. 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 And with flesh of fowls from that which they desire. 21 And wide eyed houris 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 The reward for what they did. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 and spreading shade 30 and outpoured waters, 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, 35 And made them virginal, 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
