The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 And you become [of] three kinds: 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 On thrones decorated, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 No headache will they have therefrom, nor will they be intoxicated - 19 along with fruits of their choice; 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes, 22 like hidden pearls, 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 and spreading shade 30 And water poured out 31 and an abundance of fruits, 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 And couches raised up. 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 and made them virgins, 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
