He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 you attend to him, 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 Olives and dates, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 And fruit and grass - 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
