The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 There is about its happening no lie. 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 Reclining thereon, face to face. 16 Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness), 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 And such fruits as they fancy, 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes, 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right! 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 and amid the extended shade 30 And water poured out 31 and abundant fruits, 32 undiminished and never denied 33 and upraised couches. 34 Verily, We have created them (maidens) of special creation. 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 for those on the Right, 38
