Verily this is a Revelation from the Lord of the Worlds: 192 The honest Spirit (Gabriel) brought it down 193 to your heart, so that you will warn (the people of the dangers of disobeying God). 194 In a clear Arabic language. 195 (a revelation embodied) in the scriptures of the ancients. 196 Is it not evidence enough for them that [so many] learned men from among the children of Israel have recognized this [as true]? 197 Had We revealed it to any of the non-Arabs, 198 and he had recited it to them, they would not have believed in it. 199 Thus have We caused this [message] to pass [unheeded] through the hearts of those who are lost in sin: 200 They will not believe in it until they see the painful punishment. 201 It will come upon them suddenly when they are not expecting it. 202 Then will they say: "Can we be given respite?" 203 Would they (now) hasten on Our doom? 204 Beholdest thou? if We let them enjoy for years. 205 and then what they were promised comes to them, 206 Of what avail shall their enjoyment be to them? 207 And withal, never have We destroyed any community unless it had been warned 208 We have never been unjust to anyone. 209 And the satans have not brought it down. 210 It behoveth them not, nor they can. 211 The satans are barred from listening to anything from the heavens. 212 So do not call upon another god with Allah, lest you should be one of those who are punished. 213 And admonish thy nearest kinsmen, 214 And take those believers under your wing who follow you. 215 Then if they disobey you, say: "I am innocent of what you do." 216 And rely on the Mighty, the Merciful, 217 who sees thee when thou standest 218 And (seeth) thine abasement among those who fall prostrate (in worship). 219 Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing. 220 Shall I inform you upon whom do the devils descend? 221 They descend upon all sinful self-deceivers 222 They listen, but most of them are liars. 223 As for the poets, only those who go astray follow them. 224 Did you not see that they keep wandering in every valley? 225 And that they say what they do not do. 226 Save those that believe, and do righteous deeds, and remember God oft, and help themselves after being wronged; and those who do wrong shall surely know by what overturning they will be overturned. 227
