The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 When the earth is shaken 4 and the mountains crumbled, 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 On lined couches, 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 And gorgeous eyed fair maidens. 22 Like unto preserved pearls. 23 The reward for what they did. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 All talk will be sound and upright. 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 and outpoured waters, 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 on raised couches. 34 and the noble maidens that We have created 35 and made them virgins, 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 for the people of the right hand 38
