The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 There is about its happening no lie. 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace. 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 And clustered plantains, 29 And spreading shade, 30 And water gushing, 31 and fruit abounding, 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 And made them virgins, 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 for those on the Right, 38
