The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Arise and warn, 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 and purify your clothing, 4 And stay away from idols. 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 Then he looked round; 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 and he turned his back and behaved arrogantly 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! 28 scorching the flesh; 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
