The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you who are clothed! 1 Arise and warn! 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 Purify your inner self, 4 stay away from sins 5 And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
