The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 arise, and warn! 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 And your clothing purify 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 Then he looked round; 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 and he turned his back and behaved arrogantly 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 It scorches people's skin 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
