The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Has there come on man a while of time when he was a thing unremembered? 1 We created the human being from the union of sperm and egg to test him. We gave him hearing and vision. 2 Surely We guided him upon the way whether he be thankful or unthankful. 3 Surely We have prepared for the unbelievers chains and shackles and a burning fire. 4 [whereas,] behold, the truly virtuous shall drink from a cup flavoured with the calyx of sweet-smelling flowers: 5 A spring wherefrom the slaves of Allah drink, making it gush forth abundantly, 6 The servants of God fulfill their vows and are afraid of the day in which there will be widespread terror. 7 And feed with food the needy wretch, the orphan and the prisoner, for love of Him, 8 (saying): 'We feed you only desirous of the Face of Allah; we seek of you neither recompense nor thanks, 9 "We only fear a Day of distressful Wrath from the side of our Lord." 10 Wherefore Allah shall preserve them from the evil of that Day, and shall cause them to meet brightness and joy. 11 And because they were patient and constant, He will reward them with a Garden and (garments of) silk. 12 In that [garden] they will on couches recline, and will know therein neither [burning] sun nor cold severe, 13 near them shall be its shades, and its clusters hung meekly down, 14 And there shall be made to go round about them vessels of silver and goblets which are of glass, 15 Godblets of silver, they shall have filled them to exact measure. 16 Therein they shall be served a cup flavoured with ginger, 17 A fountain there, called Salsabil. 18 ۞ There boys of everlasting youth shall go about attending them: when you see them, you would think that they are scattered pearls. 19 When you see them, you see bliss, and a great Kingdom. 20 they will wear green garments of fine silk and rich brocade. They will be adorned with silver bracelets. And their Lord will give them a pure drink. 21 "Verily this is a Reward for you, and your Endeavour is accepted and recognised." 22
