The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Of what ask they? 1 About the great news, (i.e. Islamic Monotheism, the Quran, which Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) brought and the Day of Resurrection, etc.), 2 Concerning which they are in disagreement. 3 No indeed; they shall soon know! 4 Again, indeed, they shall know! 5 Have We not made the earth an even expanse? 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 and We made your sleep a rest, 9 And We have made the night a covering. 10 and made the day [a symbol of] life. 11 And (have We not) built over you the seven firmaments, 12 And have made (therein) a shinning lamp (sun). 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water, 14 So that We bring forth thereby corn and vegetation. 15 And gardens thick with trees. 16 Verily, the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 On that Day when the trumpet shall be sounded, you shall come in droves, 18 and heaven is opened, and become gates, 19 and the mountains move, and vaporize. 20 Truly Hell is as a place of ambush, 21 a resort for the rebellious; 22 In it shall they remain for a long time. 23 Finding neither sleep nor any thing to drink 24 Except boiling water, and dirty wound discharges. 25 Requital corresponding. 26 Indeed, they did not hope for a Reckoning, 27 and they rejected outright Our signs; 28 And everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30
