The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ What are they questioning each other about? 1 (Is it) of the great announcement 2 that they are in utter disagreement? 3 Surely yes, they will soon come to know! 4 Again, indeed, they shall know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 And made your sleep for rest, 9 and We made the night a mantle, 10 And have appointed the day for livelihood. 11 And We made above you seven strong ones, 12 (the sun) as a shining torch 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water, 14 that We may bring forth thereby grain and plants, 15 and gardens dense with foliage. 16 Surely the Day of Judgement has an appointed time; 17 the day the Trumpet is blown, and you shall come in troops, 18 And the heaven will be opened – it therefore becomes like gates. 19 The mountains put in motion turning into a mirage. 20 Truly, Hell is a place of ambush, 21 For the transgressors a place of destination: 22 They will remain in it for ages. 23 They shall not taste therein cool nor drink 24 save boiling water and wash of the wounds; 25 , A fitting reward. 26 Surely they feared not the account, 27 And rejected Our signs as lies. 28 And everything We have recorded in a book. 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30

(1) وقف لازم، حيث يستخدم الرسم الإنجليزي نقطة وقف. (2) وقف جائز مع الوقف أولى، حيث يستخدم الرسم الإنجليزي فاصلة قد تظهر باحتمال الثلثين. (3) وقف جائز مع تساوي أولوية الوقف والوصل، حيث يستخدم الرسم الإنجليزي فاصلة قد تظهر باحتمال النصف للنصف. (4) وقف جائز مع الوصل أولى، حيث يستخدم الرسم الإنجليزي فاصلة قد تظهر باحتمال الثلث. (5) وقف المجاذبة أو المعانقة حيث يجب الوقف في أي من موضعين قريبين ولكن ليس كلاهما، حيث يستخدم الرسم الإنجليزي فاصلة تظهر في أحد الموقعين باحتمال النصف للنصف.
When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
