The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 About the great news, (i.e. Islamic Monotheism, the Quran, which Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) brought and the Day of Resurrection, etc.), 2 About which they cannot agree. 3 Surely yes, they will soon come to know! 4 Again surely yes, they will soon come to know! 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 and fixed the mountains like pegs, 7 And it is We who created you in pairs. 8 And made your sleep a rest. 9 And have made the night as a covering (through its darkness), 10 And We made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We built above you seven strong ones, 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 And We sent down rain from water-laden clouds pouring in torrents 14 so that We might bring forth thereby grain, and herbs, 15 And orchards full of trees and interlacing boughs. 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 The Day when the Trumpet will be blown, and you shall come forth in crowds (groups); 18 and the heaven shall be opened, and become gates, 19 The mountains put in motion turning into a mirage. 20 Truly, Hell is a place of ambush, 21 for the insolent a resort, 22 They will tarry therein for ages. 23 They shall not taste therein cool nor drink 24 Except boiling water and benumbing cold: 25 Reward proportioned (to their evil deeds). 26 For indeed they did not look forward to any reckoning, 27 And they belied Our revelations with strong belying. 28 And all things We have recorded in a Book. 29 "So taste ye (the fruits of your deeds); for no increase shall We grant you, except in Punishment." 30
