He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 to a rich man, 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 And he fears, 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And grapes and clover, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 And dense gardens, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
