He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 to him thou attendest 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and fearfully, 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 exalted, purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 noble, pious. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 We send down abundant water, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 and olives and palms, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 and fruits and fodder 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
