He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 You pay full attention, 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 you pay him no heed. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 and let the earth to break open 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 Mother and father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 laughing and joyous 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
