He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 to a rich man, 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and pious. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
End of Surah: He Frowned ('Abasa). Sent down in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
