He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 To him you give attention. 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 and fearfully, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And olives and palms 29 and dense orchards, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
God the Almighty always says the truth.
