He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 From him you are distracted. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 Olives and dates, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
