He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 To him you attend; 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 And he feareth 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 olives, dates, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
