The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
When the sun is wrapped up [in darkness] 1 And when the stars darken, 2 And when the mountains are made to pass away, 3 When the she-camels, ten months with young, are left untended; 4 and when all beasts are gathered together, 5 when the seas are set boiling, 6 when the souls shall be coupled, 7 questions are asked about the baby girls buried alive, 8 for what sin she was slain, 9 when the scrolls are unrolled, 10 when heaven is stripped, 11 And when hell is lighted, 12 when Paradise shall be brought nigh, 13 [then] each soul shall know what it has put forward. 14 So verily, I swear by the planets that recede (i.e. disappear during the day and appear during the night). 15 the runners, the sinkers, 16 and the night that falls, 17 and the morn as it breathes. 18 Truly, this is the word brought by a noble messenger, 19 one mighty and held in honour with the Lord of the Throne; 20 The one who is obeyed, and trustworthy. (Other angels obey angel Jibreel). 21 Your companion is not one possessed: 22 And indeed he saw him on the clear horizon. (Prophet Mohammed saw Angel Jibreel in his true shape – peace and blessings be upon them). 23 nor does he grudge (conveying this knowledge about) the Unseen; 24 Nor is this the word of a stoned satan. 25 Whither then go ye? 26 It is naught but a reminder for the nations, 27 For him among you who pleases to go straight. 28 However, you will not be able to choose anything unless God, Lord of the Universe wills it to be so. 29
