The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
36 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Spider (Al-Ankaboot) before The Heifer (Al-Baqarah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Woe to Al-Mutaffifin [those who give less in measure and weight (decrease the rights of others)], 1 who demand of other people full measure for themselves, 2 But when they have to give by measure or weight to men, give less than due. 3 Do they not think that they will be called to account?- 4 On a Mighty Day, 5 The day when everyone will stand before the Lord Of The Creation. 6 Indeed the ledger of the wicked will be in (the lowest depths) Sijjin. 7 Ah! what will convey unto thee what Sijjin is! - 8 A written record. 9 Woe, on that Day, to those who reject, 10 Who give the lie to the day of judgment. 11 And none belieth it save each trespasser, sinner. 12 Who, when thou readest unto him Our revelations, saith: (Mere) fables of the men of old. 13 Not at all – but rather their earnings have heaped rust upon their hearts. 14 Therefore they will be screened off from their Lord that day, 15 and then they shall enter Hell, 16 and it will be said to them: 'This is that which you belied' 17 But, the Book of the righteous is in the 'Illiyoon. 18 And what do you know what the Illiyoon are! 19 A written record, 20 Witnessed by those who are honoured. 21 Surely the pious shall be in bliss, 22 (reclining) upon couches they will gaze, 23 You will recognise the freshness of serenity on their faces. 24 They will be given pure wine out of sealed containers 25 its seal will be of musk -- for this let the aspirants aspire -- 26 a wine whose mixture is Tasnim, 27 A spring from which those near [to Allah] drink. 28 The sinners had been laughing at the believers. 29 And winked at one another as they passed by them; 30 And when they went back to their people turned to make fun of them; 31 On seeing the believers, they would say, "These people have gone astray". 32 Yet they were not sent as watchers over them. 33 So this day it is the believers who laugh at the disbelievers. 34 Regarding them from their cushioned seats. 35 Have the unbelievers been rewarded what they were doing? 36
