The Comet (Al-Taareq)

17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)

In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

I CALL TO witness the heavens and the night Star -- 1 and what could make you know what it is that comes in the night? 2 (It is a nightly radiant star). 3 There is no living being but there is a protector over it. 4 Let man reflect on what he was created from. 5 He was created from a fluid, ejected, 6 Proceeding from between the backbone and the ribs: 7 Verily, (Allah) is Able to bring him back (to life)! 8 On the Day when man's deepest secrets shall be put to the test 9 He shall have neither strength nor helper. 10 I swear by the raingiving heavens, 11 and by the earth ever bursting with verdure, 12 BEHOLD, this [divine writ] is indeed a word that distinguishes between truth and falsehood, 13 It is no pleasantry. 14 They are devising a guile, 15 and so am I: 16 Give respite to the disbelievers and leave them alone for a while. 17
