The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the sky bursts open, 1 and gives ear to its Lord, and is fitly disposed; 2 And when the earth is flattened out, 3 and casts out all that is within it and becomes empty; 4 And it hearkeneth to its Lord, and is duteous. 5 O mankind, indeed you are laboring toward your Lord with [great] exertion and will meet it. 6 Then, he who is given his Book in his right hand 7 His account shall presently be taken by an easy reckoning. 8 And will return to his people full of joy. 9 But he who is given his ledger from behind his back 10 He shall presently call for death, 11 and he shall roast at a Blaze. 12 He verily lived joyous with his folk, 13 for he never thought that he would have to return [to God]. 14 But no; (how would he not revert)? His Lord was ever watching him. 15 So I swear by the twilight glow 16 and the night and what it envelops 17 And by the moon when it is at the full, 18 Ye shall surely travel from stage to stage. 19 So what is [the matter] with them [that] they do not believe, 20 and when the Koran is recited to them that they do not prostrate! ۩ 21 But those who have disbelieved deny, 22 Whereas Allah knoweth best that which they cherish. 23 (Muhammad), tell them that they will all suffer a painful torment 24 Save those who believe and do good works, for theirs is a reward unfailing. 25
