Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]? 1 Some faces that Day shall be downcast with fear, 2 Laboring, toiling, 3 Burning in the scorching fire, 4 The while they are given, to drink, of a boiling hot spring, 5 no food for them but cactus thorn 6 unfattening, unappeasing hunger. 7 [And] some faces will on that Day shine with bliss, 8 Pleased with their striving,- 9 in a garden sublime, 10 In which they will not hear any lewd speech. 11 There is a stream of running water in it; 12 Therein will be Thrones (of dignity), raised on high, 13 And goblets set at hand 14 And arranged carpets. 15 And linen spread out. 16 What, do they not consider how the camel was created, 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 how the mountains are set firm, 19 And the earth – how it has been spread out? 20 Therefore advise; indeed you are a proclaimer of advice. (The Holy Prophet is a Remembrance from Allah.) 21 You are not a dictator over them. 22 But whoever turns back and disbelieves, 23 Him Allah shall torment with the greatest torment. 24 Indeed, to Us they shall return, 25 Then verily, for Us will be their reckoning. 26
