Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated (in the Hell-fire, i.e. the faces of all disbelievers, Jews and Christians, etc.). 2 be toiling and worn-out; 3 they shall burn in a Scorching Fire; 4 given to drink from a boiling spring. 5 no food for them except thorny plants 6 Which will neither fatten nor avail against hunger. 7 Faces on that day jocund, 8 with their striving well-pleased, 9 In a Garden on high, 10 wherein thou wilt hear no empty talk. 11 therein a running fountain, 12 Wherein are couches raised 13 And cups put in place 14 and cushions ranged, 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 Do they not look at the camels, how they are created? 17 And the heaven – how it has been raised? 18 and how the mountains were firmly fixed? 19 and how the earth is spread out? 20 So remind them (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)), you are only a one who reminds. 21 thou canst not compel them [to believe]. 22 But he who turns his back, and disbelieves, 23 God will punish them with the greatest torment. 24 Certainly, it is to Us that they will return. 25 Then it will be for Us to call them to account. 26
