Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
I swear by the daybreak, 1 by the Ten Nights, 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 And by the night when it departeth, 4 Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception? 5 Have you not heard how your Lord dealt with Aad? 6 Who were very tall like lofty pillars, 7 The likes of whom had never been created in the land? 8 and Thamood, who hollowed the rocks in the valley, 9 And Pharaoh, of the pegs (impaling his victims)? 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 And multiplied iniquity therein? 12 Therefore your Lord struck them hard with the means of punishment. 13 Most surely your Lord is watching. 14 As for man - when his Lord proveth him and so honoureth him and is bounteous unto him, then he saith: 'my Lord hath honoured me, 15 But when He trieth him, restricting his subsistence for him, then saith he (in despair), "My Lord hath humiliated me!" 16 By no means! But ye honour not the orphan, 17 and you urge not the feeding of the needy, 18 And you devour (others') inheritance greedily, 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 But no; when the earth is ground to powder, 21 and thy Lord comes, and the angels rank on rank, 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say, “Alas – if only I had sent some good deeds ahead, during my lifetime!” 24 None can punish as He will punish on that day, 25 None bindeth as He then will bind. 26 O the contented soul! 27 return to your Lord well pleased with him and He will be pleased with you. 28 So enter among My servants, 29 Enter then My garden." 30
