Dawn (Al-Fajr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By oath of the dawn. 1 and the ten nights! 2 by the even and the odd, 3 And [by] the night when it passes, 4 Why is there an oath in this, for the intelligent? 5 ART THOU NOT aware of how thy Sustainer has dealt with [the tribe of] 'Ad, 6 the people of Iram, the city of many pillars, 7 The like of which was not built in the cities, 8 And Thamood, who hewed out the rocks of the valley? 9 And with Pharaoh of the tent pegs 10 Who committed inordinacy in the cities, 11 and caused much corruption in them: 12 So your Lord poured on them different kinds of severe torment. 13 for, indeed, your Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for man, when his Lord tries him by giving him honour and gifts, then he says (puffed up): "My Lord has honoured me." 15 And if He tests him and restricts his livelihood - thereupon he says, "My Lord has degraded me!" 16 No! But you do not honor the orphan 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the needy. 18 and you greedily devour the inheritance of the weak, 19 and you ardently love wealth. 20 Nay, but [how will you fare on Judgment Day,] when the earth is crushed with crushing upon crushing, 21 and (when you find yourself) in the presence of your Lord and the rows and rows of angels, your greed for riches will certainly be of no avail to you. 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life." 24 On that day the punishment of God and His detention will be unparalleled. 25 And none will bind as He will bind. 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 "Come back to your Lord, Well-pleased (yourself) and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 Then enter the ranks of My chosen bondmen! 29 And come into My Paradise! 30
