Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Dawn 1 and the ten nights, 2 by the even, and the odd, 3 And by the Night when it passeth away;- 4 There surely is an oath for thinking man. 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 the people of Iram, the city of many pillars, 7 the like of whom has never been reared in all the land? 8 And with Thamud who carved rocks in the valley; 9 and with Pharaoh of the stakes? 10 (All) these transgressed beyond bounds in the lands, 11 and worked much corruption therein? 12 So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment. 13 your Lord keeps an eye on (all evil-doing people). 14 As for man - when his Lord proveth him and so honoureth him and is bounteous unto him, then he saith: 'my Lord hath honoured me, 15 But when He tests him by restricting his provision, he says: 'My Lord has humiliated me' 16 No. In fact you are not generous to the orphans, 17 or urge one another to feed the destitute? 18 and greedily devour the entire inheritance, 19 And ye love riches with exceeding love. 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 And your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)? 23 He shall say, 'O would that I had forwarded for my life!' 24 Wherefore on that Day none shall torment with His torment. 25 And His bonds will be such as none other can bind. 26 O satisfied soul, 27 return to your Lord well pleased with him and He will be pleased with you. 28 Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! 29 Enter thou My Paradise!' 30
