Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Nay! I swear by this city 1 this land in which thou art free to dwell 2 And the begetter and whom he begot. 3 We created the human in fatigue. 4 Does man think that no one will ever have power over him? 5 And he saith: I have destroyed vast wealth: 6 Does he think that none has observed him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes 8 a tongue, and two lips? 9 and shown him the two paths? 10 But he did not venture to scale the difficult steep. 11 What will explain to you what the ascent is? 12 (It is) Freeing a neck (slave, etc.) 13 the giving of food upon the day of hunger 14 An orphan of near relationship 15 Or some poor wretch in misery, 16 and, then besides this, he be one of those who believed, and enjoined upon one another steadfastness and enjoined upon one another compassion. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 But they who disbelieved in Our signs - those are the companions of the left. 19 who will be engulfed in the fire. 20
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
