The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
There hath asked an asker for the torment about to befall. 1 Upon the disbelievers, which none can avert, 2 From Allah, the Lord of all pinnacles. 3 On that Day (of Judgment), long as fifty thousand years, the angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him. 4 But be patient (O Muhammad) with a patience fair to see. 5 They see it [the Day of Judgement] to be far off, 6 Whereas We see it impending. 7 On that Day the heavens shall become like molten brass, 8 And the mountains shall be as tufts of wool 9 And not a friend shall ask a friend, 10 They will be seeing them; the guilty will wish if only he could redeem himself from the punishment of that day, by offering his sons. 11 and of his spouse, and of his brother, 12 and his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, 13 and all persons of the earth, if only he could thus save himself. 14 By no means! Surely it is a flaming fire 15 Taking away (burning completely) the head skin! 16 It shall call him who turneth back and backslideth. 17 And amasses (wealth) then shuts it up. 18 ۞ Surely man was created fretful, 19 If evil befalls him he is perturbed; 20 when good visits him, grudging, 21 Not so are the prayerful. 22 Who persevere in devotion, 23 And those in whose wealth there is a known right, 24 For the needy and those dispossessed, 25 who acknowledge the Day of Judgment, 26 and fear the chastisement of their Lord – 27 Indeed the punishment of their Lord is not a thing to be unafraid of! 28 And those who preserve their chastity 29 Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they are not to be blamed - 30 but any who seeks to go beyond that, it is indeed they who are the transgressors, 31 And those who respect their trusts and covenants; 32 And those who stand by their testimony 33 and who take due care of their Prayer: 34 Those are highly honored in the Gardens. 35
