Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ I do call to witness this City;- 1 And thou shalt be allowed in yonder city 2 And the begetter and whom he begot. 3 Verily, We have created man in toil. 4 What, does he think none has power over him, 5 And he saith: I have destroyed vast wealth: 6 Thinketh he that none beholdeth him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and a pair of lips? 9 Have We not shown him the ways of good and evil? 10 But he has not broken through the difficult pass. 11 And what can make you know what is [breaking through] the difficult pass? 12 (It is) Freeing a neck (slave, etc.) 13 or the feeding in times of famine 14 An orphan near of kin, 15 Or to a Miskin (poor) afflicted with misery. 16 Then he is of those who believe and charge one another to show patience, and charge one another to show compassion. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 But those who deny Our revelations are the people of the left hand: 19 and the Fire will close in on them. 20
