The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ No! I swear by this land, 1 And you are free to live upon it, -- 2 And the begetter and that which he begat, 3 We verily have created man in an atmosphere: 4 Thinketh he that none hath power over him? 5 He says, “I destroyed vast wealth.” 6 Thinketh he that none beholdeth him? 7 Did We not grant him two eyes, 8 a tongue, and two lips? 9 And did We not guide him to the two elevated things? 10 But he could not scale the steep ascent. 11 And what do you know what that difficult steep is? 12 It is the setting free of a slave 13 or, in a day of famine, the feeding of 14 of an orphan near of kin, 15 Or a needy person in misery 16 And to be of those who believe, and urge upon one another to persevere, and urge upon each other to be kind. 17 These are the fellows of the righthand. 18 As for those who disbelieve in Our revelations, they are the people of the left 19 [with] fire closing in upon them. 20
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
