Al-Shams

The Sun (Al-Shams)

15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)

In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful

CONSIDER the sun and its radiant brightness, 1 And the moon when she followeth him, 2 And by oath of the day when it reveals it 3 And the night when it draws a veil over it, 4 And the heaven and Him Who built it, 5 and by the earth and how He spread it, 6 by the soul and how He formed it, 7 and imbued it with (the consciousness of) its evil and its piety: 8 He who purifies it will indeed be successful, 9 And he is indeed a failure who stunteth it. 10 Thamud belied in their exorbitance. 11 When among them the great wretch arose, 12 But the Messenger of Allah said to them: "It is a She-camel of Allah! And (bar her not from) having her drink!" 13 However, they rejected him and slew her. So their Lord completely destroyed them and their city for their sins. 14 He does not fear the consequence. 15

True are the words of God the Almighty.
