۞ (God will command the angels), "Gather together the unjust, their spouses, and what they had worshipped 22 Beside Allah, and lead them on to the path of the Flaming Fire. 23 And halt them so that they may be questioned. 24 How is it that you are not helping one another? 25 Indeed, today they are surrendering themselves completely.” 26 And some of them inclined towards others, mutually questioning. 27 They shall say: Surely you used to come to us from the right side. 28 They will reply: "Nay, you yourselves were not believers. 29 "Nor had we any authority over you. Nay, it was ye who were a people in obstinate rebellion! 30 “So the Word of our Lord has proved true upon us; we will surely have to taste (the punishment).” 31 So then, [if it be true that] we have caused you to err grievously - behold, we ourselves had been lost in grievous error!" 32 So all of them on that day are sharers in the chastisement. 33 Verily, thus shall We deal with all who were lost in sin: 34 They were the ones, who on being told, "God is only One," become puffed-up with pride 35 and said: “Shall we forsake our deities for the sake of a distracted poet?” 36 (They say so although) he brought the Truth and confirmed the veracity of the Messengers. 37 Indeed, you [disbelievers] will be tasters of the painful punishment, 38 And you will not be recompensed except for what you used to do - 39 Save single-minded slaves of Allah; 40 For them awaits a known provision, 41 Fruits. And they will be honoured 42 in the Gardens of Bliss, 43 On couches facing one another; 44 a cup from a spring being passed round to them, 45 white, a delight to the drinkers, 46 No headiness there shall be therein, nor shall they be therewith inebriated. 47 And with them are those of modest gaze, with lovely eyes, 48 As if they were (delicate) eggs closely guarded. 49 Then they will turn to one another and question one another. 50 Said one of the speakers: "I had a friend 51 "Who used to say, 'what! art thou amongst those who bear witness to the Truth (of the Message)? 52 (Do you think) we would be paid back our due when we are dead and reduced to dust and bones?' 53 He saith: Will ye look? 54 He looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire. 55 And he will say: by Allah, thou hadst wellnigh causedest me to perish. 56 But for Allah's favour, I should be one of those who have been mustered here. 57 (Allah informs about that true believer that he said): "Are we then not to die (any more)? 58 except for our first death? Are we not going to be punished? 59 Verily this! that is the supreme achievement. 60 For the like of this, then, let the workers work. 61 So is this welcome better, or the tree of Zaqqum? 62 Indeed, We have made it a torment for the wrongdoers. 63 For it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-Fire: 64 its spathes are as the heads of Satans, 65 They will eat from it and fill their bellies with it; 66 Then after it, indeed for them is the drink of boiling hot water. 67 Then to Hell they will surely be returned. 68 They had indeed found their forefathers astray. 69 and rushed to follow them. 70 And assuredly many of the ancients went astray before them, 71 although, verily, We had sent warners unto them: 72 Then look how was the end of those who were warned - 73 EXCEPT for God's true servants, [most people are apt to go astray.] 74
