The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the night when it enshrouds, 1 and the day in splendour 2 And by oath of the One Who created the male and the female. 3 you strive in various ways. 4 Then as for him who giveths and feareth Him. 5 And believeth in goodness; 6 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Bliss. 7 But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, 8 And gives the lie to the best,- 9 We shall surely ease him to the Hardship; 10 Nor will his wealth profit him when he falls headlong (into the Pit). 11 Surely, it is for Us to provide guidance -- 12 And truly, unto Us (belong) the last (Hereafter) and the first (this world). 13 I have now warned you of the Blazing Fire, 14 whereat none but the most wretched shall be roasted, 15 He who denieth and turneth away. 16 But save him who fears 17 Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself 18 and confers no favour on any man for recompense, 19 acting only for the sake of his Lord the Most High -- 20 And presently he shall become well pleased. 21
