The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 And by the day as it appears in brightness; 2 and by the creation of the male and the female. 3 you strive in various ways. 4 We shall facilitate the path to bliss 5 And testifieth to the Good, 6 We shall surely ease him to the Path of Easing; 7 But as for him who is a miser, and self-sufficient, 8 And rejects the best, 9 For him We shall ease the way of adversity, 10 Nor will his wealth profit him when he falls headlong (into the Pit). 11 Verify on us is the guidance 12 And indeed the Hereafter and this world both belong to Us. 13 So, I warn you of the blazing Fire. 14 None shall roast therein but the most wretched, 15 who belied and turned away, 16 Far removed from it will be the righteous 17 [He] who gives [from] his wealth to purify himself 18 And not [giving] for anyone who has [done him] a favor to be rewarded 19 but only to seek the good pleasure of his Lord Most High. 20 and he shall surely be satisfied. 21
