The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the night, when it envelops, 1 And the day resplendent 2 And [by] He who created the male and female, 3 you strive in various ways. 4 So for one who gave and practised piety 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). 7 And as for him who is niggardly and considers himself free from need (of Allah), 8 And rejects goodness, 9 We shall facilitate for him the way to Hardship, 10 His riches will not save him when he perisheth. 11 Lo! Ours it is (to give) the guidance 12 And verily unto Us (belong) the End and the Beginning. 13 Now I have warned you of a Fire that flames, 14 None shall roast therein but the most wretched, 15 who gives the lie to the truth and turns away [from it]. 16 But those most devoted to Allah shall be removed far from it,- 17 he that spends his possessions [on others] so that he might grow in purity 18 and confers no favor upon anyone for recompense 19 But only seeking the Countenance of his Lord the Most High. 20 surely, he shall be satisfied. 21
