The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 And by oath of the day when it shines 2 And Him Who hath created male and female, 3 Indeed, your efforts are diverse. 4 We shall facilitate the path to bliss 5 and believes in the finest, 6 We will facilitate for him the easy end. 7 But he who is greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient. 8 And gives the lie to Al-Husna (see Verse No: 6 footnote); 9 We shall facilitate for him the way to Hardship, 10 And his substance will avail him not when he perisheth. 11 Verily We take upon Ourselves to guide, 12 And indeed, to Us belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 13 I therefore warn you of the fire that is ablaze. 14 none shall enter it but the most wicked, 15 who rejected the Truth, calling it falsehood and turned his back on it. 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 he that spends his possessions [on others] so that he might grow in purity 18 and confers no favor upon anyone for recompense 19 He desires only to please his Lord, the Supreme. 20 and he shall surely be satisfied. 21
