▼ 74 The Hidden Secret
Al-Muddath-thir 2 of 2
Nay, verily: By the Moon, 32 And by the night when it withdraws, 33 And by oath of the morning, when it spreads light. 34 Verily, that [hell-fire] is Indeed one of the great [forewarnings] 35 a warning to mortal man 36 to whoever of you desires to go forward or lag behind. 37 Every soul will be (held) in pledge for its deeds. 38 except the people of the right hand 39 [dwelling] In gardens [of paradise,] they will inquire 40 concerning the sinners, 41 "What has brought you into hell-fire?" 42 They will answer: "We were not among those who prayed; 43 "Nor were we of those who fed the indigent; 44 “And used to dwell on evil matters with those who think evilly.” 45 And we have been belying the Day of Requital. 46 "Until there came to us (the Hour) that is certain." 47 And so, of no benefit to them could be the intercession of any that would intercede for them. 48 Then what is [the matter] with them that they are, from the reminder, turning away 49 As they were frightened asses 50 fleeing -- before a lion? 51 Nay, but everyone of them desireth that he should be given open pages (from Allah). 52 By no means! Aye, they fear not the Hereafter. 53 Nay! it is surely an admonition. 54 So whoever wills may heed advice from it. 55 And they will not mind unless Allah please. He is worthy to be feared and worthy to forgive. 56

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
