The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the Night as it conceals (the light); 1 by the day when it appears radiant, 2 And Him Who hath created male and female, 3 Lo! your effort is dispersed (toward divers ends). 4 As for he who gives and fears Allah 5 And (in all sincerity) testifies to the best,- 6 We will facilitate for him the easy end. 7 But for those who are niggardly, horde their wealth, 8 And rejects goodness, 9 We will facilitate for him the difficult end. 10 His wealth will not avail him when he falls into ruin. 11 Surely Ours is it to show the way, 12 And truly, unto Us (belong) the last (Hereafter) and the first (this world). 13 I therefore warn you of the fire that is ablaze. 14 in which none shall be roasted except the most wretched sinner, 15 The one who denied and turned away. 16 Far removed from it will be the righteous 17 Who gives his wealth in order to be pure. 18 and confers no favour on any man for recompense, 19 seeking only the Face of his Lord, the Most High, 20 and such, indeed, shall in time be well-pleased. 21
