The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
READ IN THE name of your Lord who created, 1 created the human from a (blood) clot. 2 Read, and your Lord only is the Most Beneficent, 3 The One Who taught to write with the pen. 4 Taught man what he knew not. 5 Nay, verily, man becomes grossly overweening 6 Because he sees himself self-sufficient. 7 Surely to your Lord is the return. 8 Have you seen one who prevents 9 a servant (of Allah) when he prays? 10 Hast thou seen if he relieth on the guidance (of Allah) 11 and enjoins piety? 12 Hast thou considered whether he may [not] be giving the lie to the truth and turning his back [upon it]? 13 Knoweth he not that Allah beholdeth? 14 No indeed; surely, if he gives not over, We shall seize him by the forelock, 15 his lying sinful forelock. 16 Then, let him call upon his council (of helpers), 17 We shall call the guards of Hell. 18 (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. ۩ 19
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
