The Sun (Al-Shams)
15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By oath of the sun and its light 1 And by oath of the moon when it follows the sun 2 By the Day as it shows up (the Sun's) glory; 3 By the Night as it conceals it; 4 By the heaven and Who built it, 5 By the Earth and its (wide) expanse: 6 and by the soul and that (Power) which designed it 7 And inspired in it the knowledge of its sins and its piety. 8 Indeed he succeeds who purifies his ownself (i.e. obeys and performs all that Allah ordered, by following the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism and by doing righteous good deeds). 9 And he is indeed a failure who stunteth it. 10 In their presumptuous insolence the Thamud called the Truth a lie 11 Behold, the most wicked man among them was deputed (for impiety). 12 Then the messenger of God said to them, "This is God's she-camel. Let her drink." 13 But they rejected his statement as a lie and hamstrung the she-camel. For that crime their Lord rumbled down upon them, utterly razing them to the ground. 14 And for Him is no fear of its consequences. 15
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
