۞ And certainly We gave to Ibrahim his rectitude before, and We knew him fully well. 51 He said to his father and to his nation: 'What, are these the statues to which you cling' 52 They answered: "We found our forefathers worshipping them." 53 Abraham said, "Indeed, you and your fathers have been clearly misguided." 54 They said, "Have you brought us the Truth, or are you one of those who jest?" 55 He said: Aye! your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth Who created them, and as to that I am of the witnesses. 56 And [I swear] by Allah, I will surely plan against your idols after you have turned and gone away." 57 So he broke them into fragments, all but a great one they had, for haply they would return to it. 58 They said: Who hath done this to our gods? Surely it must be some evil-doer. 59 Some among them said, “We heard a youth speak ill of them – the one called Ibrahim.” 60 "Bring him before the people," they said, "that they may bear witness." 61 They said: art thou the one who hath wrought this unto our gods, O Ibrahim? 62 Said he, “Rather, their chief may have done it; so question them, if they can speak.” 63 So they returned to [blaming] themselves and said [to each other], "Indeed, you are the wrongdoers." 64 Then they were utterly put to confusion saying, 'Very well indeed thou knowest these do not speak.' 65 Abraham said: "Do you, then, worship beside Allah a thing that can neither benefit you nor hurt you? 66 Fie on you and all that ye worship instead of Allah! Have ye then no sense? 67 They said, "Burn him and support your gods - if you are to act." 68 We said: O fire, be coolness and peace for Abraham, 69 They had sought to do him harm, but We frustrated them. 70 We took Abraham and Lot safely to the land in which We had sent blessings to the worlds. 71 And We gave him Isaac and Jacob in superfluity, and every one made We righteous 72 and appointed them to be leaders guiding by Our command, and We revealed to them the doing of good deeds, and to perform the prayer, and to pay the alms, and Us they served. 73 And (as for) Lut, We gave him wisdom and knowledge, and We delivered him from the town which wrought abominations; surely they were an evil people, transgressors; 74 Thus We admitted him to Our grace. He is surely one of the righteous. 75
