The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord Who created, 1 created the human from a (blood) clot. 2 Proclaim! And thy Lord is Most Bountiful,- 3 Who teacheth by the pen, 4 Teacheth man that which he knew not. 5 Yet man behaves arrogantly, 6 for he thinks himself self-sufficient. 7 Surely your returning is to your Lord. 8 What is your opinion – regarding him who forbids – 9 a worshipper from praying? 10 What will happen if the praying person is rightly guided 11 or enjoins true piety? 12 Have you thought that if he denies and turns away, 13 does he not know that Allah sees? 14 Nay! if he desist not, We would certainly smite his forehead, 15 A lying, sinning forelock. 16 and then let him summon [to his aid] the counsels of his own [spurious] wisdom, 17 We also shall call the infernal guards. 18 By no means! Obey not thou him. Continue to adore, and continue to draw nigh. ۩ 19
